Care for the work and respect for its creator
Every game has its own artistic identity, shaped by its graphics, sound, atmosphere, pacing and creative choices. When bringing it to another computer, we aim to preserve that identity with the greatest possible care. Technical changes are intended to make the work accessible on a new system while preserving the experience its creator intended.
We want creators to recognise their work and the care taken with it. We give prominence to credits, original references and the conditions set by rights holders. If a creator feels that an adaptation does not respect their artistic intent, we invite them to contact us: we listen to their concerns and agree on corrections or suspension of distribution.
Authors, original works and distribution
This is a preservation and sharing project with no commercial purpose: we do not sell or resell the games. We aim to introduce titles to less well-served vintage computers and give their enthusiasts new opportunities to enjoy them. Our goal is to celebrate the original works, respecting their creators, credits and distribution terms. Before publication we look online for distribution information and conditions; what we find may be incomplete or may have been misinterpreted. We do not intend to disregard an author’s wishes or claim authorship of their work.
A free original download does not automatically grant permission to redistribute or modify the work. Where an explicit prohibition applies, we do not offer a download. If you are the author or rights holder and find a product whose distribution is not authorised, please tell us: we suspend the download while checking and correct the page and credits. The page may remain in the catalogue as documentation, marked “DENIED” for downloads.
Faithfulness to the original work: our ports aim for a one-to-one translation of the playing experience, preserving its identity, content, rules and behaviour without redesigning or reinterpreting them. Technical changes allow the game to run on its target computer. In the Ports section, changes focus on compatibility and fidelity; in the Games section, different architectures may require broader adaptations to code, graphics and audio, with the same preservation goal. One-to-one therefore describes the intended fidelity, not the absence of code changes. A non-commercial purpose and faithfulness to the original do not replace the permissions required by the authors.
Preservation and respect for QL and SAM traders
The same attention to rights applies to the Preservation section. We respect the work of traders and distributors still serving the Sinclair QL and SAM Coupé communities: we do not offer downloads of products whose distribution is reserved to them, or for which a prohibition is known, unless the relevant permission has been granted. Catalogue entries and historical information can remain available even when downloads are disabled.
Our goal is not to boast about large numbers, but to prevent software, documentation and records left untouched for years or decades from disappearing. Recovering and documenting this material helps safeguard computing history and, where distribution is permitted, makes it accessible to enthusiasts. We want this record to outlast deteriorating media, forgotten archives and the individuals who care for it today.
Historical interest, being out of print, or the passing of forty or fifty years do not by themselves authorise distribution or establish that copyright has expired. We consult available terms and specialist archives, but a file being hosted elsewhere does not automatically establish permission. This collection may also contain incomplete information or errors: authors, rights holders and traders can report the title, our catalogue page and the relevant terms using the contact above. We suspend the download during review and update its status and references.
Licences and permissions for individual titles
This page explains the project’s principles; it does not apply a single licence to all material on the site. Each game, source file, image, music track or document remains subject to the relevant licence and permissions. Before sharing or modifying a file, consult the references on its page and in the original package, and retain the required credits and notices.
Permission for a particular conversion should not automatically be extended to other uses or versions. A licence allowing non-commercial use may still impose conditions, such as attribution or restrictions on sharing adaptations. If your intended use is not covered by the available permissions, contact the rights holder, subject to applicable legal exceptions.
Reports from creators and rights holders
Authors and distribution rights: if you are the author or rights holder, include the original title, the link to our page, your name or official reference, and the restriction or permission we should review. If available, attach the licence, a link to the original statement or the relevant correspondence. Bug-report technical details are not required for these reports.
