OUTSOFTWARE / MESHTASTIC · LoRa
Outsoftware is also on Meshtastic.
Our interest in communications extends to radio: we participate in the Meshtastic network with three fixed nodes and two client devices.

Clients: Wio Tracker and T-LoRa Pager.

A local presence
Our three fixed nodes already contribute to coverage in the northern part of the town where we operate. We use SenseCAP Solar Node devices, with solar panels and batteries, to support the local network.
The Wio Tracker and LILYGO T-LoRa Pager are our client devices, used to access the mesh and exchange messages.

Outsoftware supports Italy’s free LoRa mesh network in the EU_868 band (868 MHz), using Meshtastic with the Medium Fast (MEDIUM_FAST) preset.
We are also online on the mesh: look for the Outsoftware devices and contact us by direct message or through the chat channels we use.
Channels in our configuration: Primary Channel, Ita-Help, AllerteRRP, Ita-Centro, Ita-Test, Ita-Shop and Ita-Nord.
The LoRa Italia network’s Medium Fast preset uses a centre frequency of 869.525 MHz in the EU_868 band. References: LoRa Italia and network documentation.
What is Meshtastic?
Meshtastic is an open-source project for exchanging messages over a radio mesh network. It uses low-power LoRa devices: nodes can communicate and relay messages through the network without relying on an Internet connection or cellular service.
For Outsoftware, it is another way to explore connections and communications alongside the computers and workstations in our vintage hardware collection.
Help build a free network
The network grows through participation: start with a compatible device, configure it with your local community and contribute a well-positioned node.
LoRa Italia is a reference for the Italian community. Its Italian-language guides explain node configuration and radio link planning. The official Meshtastic getting-started guide is available in English.
An international community
Meshtastic is used across Europe, the United States and many other countries. EU_868 is widely used in Europe; local networks agree on their preset, which may be Long Fast or Medium Fast, for example. The LoRa Italia network uses Medium Fast.
In the United States, the US radio region uses the 902–928 MHz band, commonly referred to as 915 MHz. The official radio settings guide explains regional bands and presets. Actual coverage depends on available nodes and radio links, growing with the community’s contribution.
